Our 1.25G SFP BIDI 40km series provides a fiber-efficient, high-performance solution for establishing Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel links over extended distances. This series specifically addresses the challenge of limited fiber infrastructure by enabling full-duplex 1.25Gb/s bidirectional communication over a single strand of standard single-mode fiber for reaches up to 40 kilometers. The series comprises two dedicated, matched transmitter/receiver pairs, offering flexibility for network design:

Pair Set A: 1.25G SFP BIDI 1550T/1310R 40km & 1310T/1550R 40km

Pair Set B: 1.25G SFP BIDI 1550T/1490R 40km & 1490T/1550R 40km

All modules in the series share core features: a hot-pluggable SFP form factor, integrated digital diagnostic monitoring (DDM) for real-time link management, robust EMI/ESD protection, and availability in multiple operating temperature grades (Commercial, Extended, Industrial) to suit diverse deployment environments from controlled data centers to harsh outdoor cabinets.

It utilizes an advanced 4-channel CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing) design, multiplexing and de-multiplexing four independent optical lanes, each operating at a data rate up to 11.2 Gbps, to deliver an aggregate bandwidth exceeding 40 Gbps. This intelligent integration allows the transmission of the full 40G payload over a single pair of standard single-mode fibers via a duplex LC connector, dramatically simplifying fiber infrastructure compared to parallel optics solutions. It is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3ba standard for 40GBASE-LR4 Ethernet, ensuring guaranteed interoperability and reliable performance over links up to 10 kilometers.

Q: If the link goes down, how can I quickly determine if it's a module issue or a fiber line problem?

A: You can utilize the modules' built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) functions. Access the port information on your network device. If the Transmit Power is normal but the Received Power is very low or nonexistent, the issue likely lies with the far-end module or the fiber line (e.g., broken fiber, tight bend, dirty connector). If the local Transmit Power reading is abnormal, the module itself might be faulty. This is a powerful troubleshooting tool.

 

Q: What about the power consumption and thermal performance? Could they overheat in a high-density switch?

A: You can be assured. These modules are designed for high efficiency with a typical power dissipation of less than 1.5W, which is relatively low for 10G long-reach optics, resulting in manageable heat output. Even in a fully loaded, high-density chassis, overheating is typically not a concern provided the equipment itself has adequate airflow and cooling design.

 

Q: In what real-world networking scenarios would I specifically need this 80km BIDI pair?

A: This pair is the ideal solution for scenarios combining long-distance needs with scarce fiber resources. Classic applications include connecting two campus or data center sites dozens of kilometers apart when only one fiber strand is available in the conduit, or providing 10G access for multiple sites in a Metro Area Network (MAN) without laying new fiber pairs for each link, resulting in significant infrastructure savings.

 

Q: Can they be used in outdoor cabinets or industrial environments?

A: Yes. This series offers an Industrial temperature grade version (operating from -40°C to 85°C), specifically designed for environments without strict climate control, such as outdoor access points or wireless base station backhaul.
