A: You can utilize the modules' built-in Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) functions. Access the port information on your network device. If the Transmit Power is normal but the Received Power is very low or nonexistent, the issue likely lies with the far-end module or the fiber line (e.g., broken fiber, tight bend, dirty connector). If the local Transmit Power reading is abnormal, the module itself might be faulty. This is a powerful troubleshooting tool.
Q: What about the power consumption and thermal performance? Could they overheat in a high-density switch?
A: You can be assured. These modules are designed for high efficiency with a typical power dissipation of less than 1.5W, which is relatively low for 10G long-reach optics, resulting in manageable heat output. Even in a fully loaded, high-density chassis, overheating is typically not a concern provided the equipment itself has adequate airflow and cooling design.
