Tips For Using 200G Optical Modules

Jan 10, 2025

‌Tips for using 200G optical modules include the following:

‌Anti-static measures‌: When using optical modules, anti-static measures must be taken, and anti-static gloves or anti-static wristbands must be worn to prevent static electricity from damaging the optical modules.

‌Pick-up and drop-out operations‌: When taking the optical module, it is strictly forbidden to touch the optical module gold finger, and make sure to handle it gently to prevent the optical module from being compressed and bumped. If it is accidentally bumped, it is recommended not to use the optical module.

‌Plug-in and pull-out method‌: When installing the optical module, you need to insert it to the bottom with force. When you feel a slight vibration or hear a "pop" sound, it means that the optical module has been locked in place. When removing the optical module, you need to unplug the fiber jumper first, and then slowly remove the optical module according to the correct steps to avoid strong pulling.

‌Connecting optical fiber‌: Insert one side of the optical fiber into the optical interface of the optical module, and then insert the other end into the optical interface of the optical transceiver or other optical module.

‌Power connection‌: Connect the adapter or other power supply to the power interface of the optical module according to the specifications and requirements of the optical module.

‌Set parameters‌: Use the management interface or command line interface provided by the device to set the working mode, rate, power and other parameters of the optical module according to actual needs.

‌Start the device‌: Turn on the power switch of the optical module to start the device. Under normal circumstances, the optical module will automatically send and receive optical signals.

‌Monitoring and maintenance‌: Use optical test equipment such as optical power meter to monitor the sending and receiving power of the optical module and adjust it as needed.

‌Prevent optical port pollution‌: Before inserting the optical fiber jumper into the optical port, its end face must be kept clean. When installing, wipe the end face of the optical fiber jumper with fiber wiping paper. If the optical module is not in use, it must be covered with a dust cap to avoid dust pollution.

‌Prevent overload optical power‌: When using an OTDR meter to test the continuity or attenuation of the optical fiber path, the optical fiber must be disconnected from the optical module first to prevent the optical power from overloading and burning the optical module.
