Optical Module Single Mode
An opticalmodule single mode is a high-performance fiber-optic transceiver designed for long-distance communication using single-mode fiber (SMF). Operating at wavelengths of 1310 nm or 1550 nm, it transmits data through a narrow 9/125µm core that allows only one light mode to propagate, minimizing signal dispersion and attenuation. This makes it ideal for scenarios requiring transmission distances exceeding 2km, such as metro networks, data center interconnects, and 5G backhaul. Compared to multimode modules (which use 50/125µm or 62.5/125µm cores for short-range transmission up to 550m), the opticalmodule single mode offers superior bandwidth and lower latency over extended ranges. Its key advantages include compatibility with high-speed protocols (e.g., 400G QSFP-DD), energy efficiency (≤10W power consumption), and adaptability to dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM). Applications span telecom networks, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise WANs, where reliability and future scalability are critical.
