A1: The decision hinges on distance and application. Choose LR4 when you need to connect different buildings, across a campus, or for metro-area data center interconnects within its 10km range. Short-reach modules are only suitable for connections within a single data hall or building.
Q2: If there is a link failure, how can I preliminarily determine if it's a module issue or a fiber line problem?
A2: The most effective method is to use the module's Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) capabilities. Access the port statistics on your switch. If the Transmit (Tx) Power is normal but the Received (Rx) Power is very low or absent, the issue likely lies with the far-end module or the fiber link. If the local Tx Power is abnormal, the module itself might be faulty.
Q3: Besides speed, what are the key differences between the 100G, 200G, and 400G modules in the LR4 series?
A3: While speed is the primary difference, they also utilize different, industry-standard form factors to achieve their rates: QSFP28 for 100G, QSFP56 for 200G, and QSFP-DD for 400G.
